So, before I get into the kite story I want to take a little time to tell you what we have been up to. Two weekends ago Alyssa and I drove hundreds upon hundreds of miles to see our friend Kody who is going to school in Arizona. For those of you who have not made that trek, the journey out there can be pretty bland. But that is beside the point. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in Kody's dorm room with him for a few days and let me just say we can destroy anyone at Mario Kart now haha. The three of us did alot of catching up and even caught a few spring training games while we were there. The whole weekend was really just the three of us friends having fun and watching some baseball. Thank you Kody for letting us stay in your room and for having us as your guests for a few days.
Okay, on to the kite story now. This past weekend, and also the weekend after Arizona, Alyssa's family booked a room at the Hyatt Huntington Beach Resort. I had never really heard of it but Alyssa swore by it and was almost weeping tears of joy when she found out that we would be staying there. The rooms at the resort are nothing too special but the scenery, the architecture, the ambiance, and the location really get you. I can't really recall going to Huntington, at least in my recent memory, but I found that Main Street in Huntington is really my kind of place. The shops and the people are so great, plus the music that can be heard playing in all of the stores is what I like to hear.
Anyway, back to the list item that I am trying to get at. It was a really warm weekend in Huntington. Even though California is much warmer than the rest of the country in the winter, the weather there was unheard of and absolutely perfect. Had we gone a week earlier we would have been rained out. On Saturday Alyssa and I were just bumming around and being lazy as you are supposed to be on vacation. She got a call from her mom saying that she had seen some kites on sale and was willing to pick one up if we wanted. We actually ended up calling down to one of the shops at the resort and picking one up from there. Oddly enough it was shaped like a penguin! The weather was great and we headed down to the beach to give kite-flying a go. I thought it was going to be a tough time getting that thing up in the air but it really wasn't. The second we got it set up it just took off. It stayed up in the air for a long time and we even tried to attach a camera to it (which ended up being a horrible idea lol). We even took it out again the next day and tied it to the umbrella. The two of us just let it fly while we laid on the beach.
Alyssa took a particular interest in this one. I enjoyed flying the kite but she found it to be her new favorite hobby! It was a very inexpensive item on the list and it lasted for hours. There was just something about it, for me at least, that made me realize that no matter how inexpensive something is, or how odd it may seem, there are little things in life that can be fun that most people don't take a second to think about.
